Before namaaz Make sure that your clothes and your body is clean and that the place you are going to pray is clean. Make sure that you are facing the qiblah at all times while doing namaaz.

Surah faatihah Recite surah faatihah ending it with ‘walad dhalleen aameen’ (softly). After that you can recite any surah which you know by heart,

Niyyah Niyyah means intention. Example: I am performing 2 rakaat farz namaaz Fajr just to please Allah facing towards the qiblah. Then say ‘Allaa-hu-akbar’. Saying ‘Allaa-hu-akbar’ is called takbeer-e-takreemah. It’s the first allaa-hu-akbar in the whole namaaz. Then put your left hand under your right hand with your fingers all together. For men you should fold your hands, so its just above your belly button or even on your belly button, and for women, you should fold your hands, so it is on the top part of your chest.

Thaana Now read the Thaana: sub-haa-na-kal-laa-hum-ma- wa-bi ham-di-ka wa ta-baa-ra kas-muka wa ta-’aa- laa jad-du-ka wa laa ilaa-ha ghai-ruk. Now read the Thaana: sub-haa-na-kal-laa-hum-ma- wa-bi ham-di-ka wa ta-baa-ra kas-muka wa ta-’aa- laa jad-du-ka wa laa ilaa-ha ghai-ruk. All glory be to you O Allah! And praise be to you; Blessed is your name and exulted is your majesty, and there is none worthy of worship besides you. All glory be to you O Allah! And praise be to you; Blessed is your name and exulted is your majesty, and there is none worthy of worship besides you.

First rakaat Read the ta’awwuz: A-oo-zuh-bil-lah-hi-mi- nash-shay-taa-nir-ra-jeem. Read the ta’awwuz: A-oo-zuh-bil-lah-hi-mi- nash-shay-taa-nir-ra-jeem. I seek refuge in Allah from shaytaan and accursed. I seek refuge in Allah from shaytaan and accursed. And tasmiyah: bis-mil-lah-hir-rah-maa-nir-ra- heem. And tasmiyah: bis-mil-lah-hir-rah-maa-nir-ra- heem. I begin in the name of Allah, the most gracious, the most merciful. I begin in the name of Allah, the most gracious, the most merciful.

rukoo When making rukoo a woman should only bend over enough so that her hands reach her knees. The hand should be placed on the knees, with the fingers kept together In rukoo the elbows should touch the sides of her body. While you are still in rukoo say: sub-haa- na rab-biyal a’zeem. How gracious is my lord the great. For men you should bend over, so that your back is straight and you have to place your hands on your knees, making sure your fingers are apart. In ruku, you have to read “Subhana rabiyal Adheem”

Tasmee and qawmah  Qawmah: To stand up after rukoo.  Tasmee: To say sam-mi-’al-laa-hu-li- man-ha-mee-da.rab-ba-naa-la-kal- hamd.  Allah has listened to him who has praised him. O our lord! Praised be to you.

First sajdah  Now saying ‘allah-hu-akbar’ and placing both of your hands onto your knees, go down into Sajdah. When going down into sajdah, first place the knees on the ground, then the palms, then the nose and lastly the forehead.  The face should rest between the two hands with the fingers pointing towards the Qiblah. In sajdah the thighs should not be upright but in as flat a position as possible, with the feet spread towards the right.  While in Sajdah the stomach and thighs must be kept together.  The forearms should be put flat on the ground. Women must not raise their voice when saying ‘sub-haana-rabbi-yal-a’la’. All glory be to my lord the most high.  For men, you have to make sure your arms are not touching the body or the ground, the stomach should be away from the thighs, and you have to read ‘sub-haana-rabbi-yal-a’la’ 3 times.  For both men and women, you have to make sure your nose and forehead are touching the ground.

Jalsah Saying ‘Allah-hu-akbar’ sit up straight, do not sit with your back crooked or stooped. It is important to sit up and pause after the first sajdah, merely lifting the head from the ground without sitting up before the second sajdah will nullify the namaaz. For men you should sit resting your back on the left leg and having the right leg raised, the toes facing the qibla. For women, you should not sit on your left leg

Second Sajdah The second sajdah is performed as the first i.e. going into sajdah saying “Allahu Akbar” and reading “Subhana rabiyal A’laa” softly at least 3 times. At this point one raka’ah is complete, you should then stand up, for the second raka’ah. The second sajdah is performed as the first i.e. going into sajdah saying “Allahu Akbar” and reading “Subhana rabiyal A’laa” softly at least 3 times. At this point one raka’ah is complete, you should then stand up, for the second raka’ah.

Second Raka’ah Saying “Allahu Akbar”, stand up for the second raka’ah. On getting up first lift the the forehead, then the nose and then the knees. Ensure that the hands are on the knees and not on the ground for support except for a valid reason. Saying “Bismilahir Rahmaanir raheem” recite surah faatiha and a surah of your choice and complete second rak’ah in the same manner as the first one.
