Who is considered homeless? ● Children and youth who lack fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence, including children and youth who are: ● sharing the house of other persons due to loss of housing ● living in motels, hotels, cars, public spaces, campgrounds, or similar settings ●living in emergency or transitional shelters ●abandoned in hospitals or in the first 6 months of foster care ●unaccompanied youth, including any youth not in the physical custody of a parent or guardian
Homeless children have the right to: ★ free and appropriate education ★ attend and enroll immediately even it unable to provide records required for enrollment ★ enroll or remain in school without a permanent address ★ stay in school of origin (to the extent feasible) ★ go to school where child last attended or school where temporarily living ★ transportation (to the extent feasible) ★ participate in extracurricular activities ★ automatically qualify for free meals as school ★ eligible for Title I and/or special education services if needed
