AN OPEN LETTER TO MOTHERS AND FATHERS Three months ago I sat in a court and heard a judge say, "20 years." He was pronouncing sentence on my 21 year old son, punishment for drinking, gambling and robbery, which ended in the shooting and near death of a man. The sentence might have been less, but my son took a sneering, defiant attitude all through court; he ridiculed every officer who spoke to him. The shocking climax came when the judge asked, "Young man, don't you believe in God?" He laughed loud and long and the said, "God, who's that?" Every eye in the courtroom turned to look at me. I went to Sunday services when I was small and learned about God. After I married,

I decided to go again and take my children. I could not persuade my husband to go, but the children and I went regularly for a year. I began skipping and then just went on special days. Then I joined a bowling team which competed on Sunday afternoons. I couldn't go to church and bowl too, and bowling was such fun. If only I had those years to live over. Night after night, since that trial, I have walked the floor with the words, "God, who's that" echoing in my ears. Mothers and fathers need to think about their failure to attend services of the church. Juvenile delinquency is proving that parents are not getting to the meat of the matter - Anonymous
