I John 2:15-17
1. LUST OF THE FLESH 2. LUST OF THE EYES 3. PRIDE OF LIFE
“And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof...” (Gen. 3:6).
“GOOD FOR FOOD” - LUST OF THE FLESH “PLEASANT TO THE EYES” - LUST OF THE EYES “TO MAKE ONE WISE” – PRIDE OF LIFE
He hungered... Command these stones be made bread (Mt. 4:3) – LUST OF THE FLESH If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down (Mt. 4:6) – PRIDE OF LIFE Showed all the kingdoms of the world... If thou wilt fall down and worship me (Mt. 4:8- 9) - LUST OF THE EYES
IT IS WRITTEN... Man shall not live by bread alone (Mt. 4:4; Deut. 8:3). IT IS WRITTEN... Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God (Mt. 4:7; Deut. 6:16). IT IS WRITTEN... Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve (Mt. 5:10; Deut. 6:13).
“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee” (Ps. 119:11). “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin: for his seed remaineth in him” (I Jn. 3:9). Overcoming by the word!
ADAM AND EVE SHOWED THE WAY DOWN THEY HEARD, BELIEVED AND OBEYED A LIE CHRIST SHOWED THE WAY UP WE MUST HEAR, BELIEVE AND OBEY THE TRUTH
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom” (Col. 3:16). “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (II Pet. 3:18). “Desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby” (I Pet. 2:2).
