About the Foundation

A leading community grant maker A registered charity Independently run Income deeded from Lloyds Banking Group - £25m per year for 2013 Since inception over £312m invested in over 42,000 charities

At the heart of our work Supporting small & medium charities that help disadvantaged people who live in England or Wales to play a fuller role in the community

Our focus is on lasting change Support for charities that deliver lasting changes for individuals and/or communities Charities must show tangible changes for users

Funding Across the Regions In 2012, the Foundation awarded 841 grants, investing over £20.5 million across England and Wales 50% of our funding is invested in the 20% most deprived areas 75% of funding goes towards core costs such as salaries, rent and utilities

Distribution of Funding in 2012

2012 Funding in East Berkshire Slough Immigration Aid Unit received £23,900 towards an immigration advisor’s salary £26,300 to Berkshire Autistic Society supporting its Parent to Parent Post Diagnosis Support Project £25,000 awarded to Innersense towards salary costs supporting its multisensory theatrical workshop programme for people with learning disabilities

To be eligible you must have: Unrestricted reserves of 12 months or less Have an income of £1 million or less if you work locally or regionally Have an income of £5 million or less if you work nationally

Our Funding Programmes We also run issue-based programmes that fund charities specialising in particular areas –In 2012 we ran a new Older People’s Programme for charities whose work encourages empowerment and independence of older people –£2.1m was awarded to 15 charities Previous programmes have focussed on supporting people in contact with the criminal justice system including young offenders, ex-offenders and offenders with mental health issues

We focus on charities’ needs and delivering lasting change Support for charities with a track record of service delivery Established and/or new work Core costs including salaries so charities can deliver core services Projects that build on charities’ core purposes Support for charities that can show lasting measurable changes for service users 1-3 year grants that are appropriate to the size of the charity

Our focus – who we don’t fund Organisations that are not registered charities Charities that mainly work overseas Charities that mainly give funds to other charities, individuals or other organisations Hospitals, hospices or medical centres Rescue services Schools, colleges and universities Charities with more than 12 months running costs in their free reserves

What we look for in a well run organisation Good governance Good support for staff and volunteer development Well managed finances Planning for the charity’s future Understanding of the needs of service users with services responding to these Good networking/external relationships Ability to describe and demonstrate the difference your work makes to your service users Commitment to quality

What we are looking for in an application A well planned proposal responding to an identified need An understanding of your service users A well thought out delivery plan and budget A clear identification of the changes and benefits it will deliver for your service users and the objectives you aim to achieve Details of how you will monitor and measure your progress in achieving your objectives
