QUALITY OF LIFE COACH LEARNING EXPERIENCE #3 Stretch Zone

Values in Action  Gratitude: Knowing, feeling, and being thankful for the good things in life

Role and Expectations of a Quality of Life Coach  Guides and encourages team members to better support the people we serve by using the “Must Haves.”  Uses their learning experiences and tools to help DD professionals shift their perspectives.  Challenges members to find answers from within themselves based on their values, preferences, and past experiences.

 Provides support and gentle feedback to team members by addressing facts and actions that do not fit the “Good Life” model.  Enhances strategic thinking, positively deals with conflict, and builds an effective team.  Assists and facilitates members to engage in self-assessment in order for them to provide a better quality of life for those they serve. Role and Expectations of a Quality of Life Coach (Cont.)

Tools of a Quality of Life Coach  Green Hat – Positive Attitude  Beginner’s Mind – Everything is possible  Pink Bat Thinking - Is the focus where problems are turned into solutions  Eat the Frog – Being Comfortable with the Uncomfortable  Gentle Wind - Helps us move into & stay in the Stretch Zone  Floodlight Vision – Helps to see the bigger picture and is future oriented  Be a Duck - Keep calm and unruffled on the surface but paddle like the devil underneath  Rationality - Ability to focus, listen, evaluate, problem solve & reason  Emotional First-Aid – Build trust, decrease fear, decrease emotional injury, decrease physical injury, and preserve the relationship

Introduced to the Stretch Zone  Stretch Zone is a place where individual & organizational learning and growth occurs. The Stretch Zone requires intentional & purposeful self-assessment & critical thinking.  Moving into the “Stretch Zone” requires a deliberate & disciplined focus
