Phoenix Anka is a huge, nice-voiced bird with colourful, long golden feathers. Anka’s face is just like human’s. It has a long neck surrounded with a white hoop.

The most important characteristic feature of this bird is loneliness. This feature symbolizes spiritual power of human beings which keeps the away from the materialistic world.

Hüma The origin of Hima is coming from the world “Hüma” is Persian. It means happiness and blessedness. It is also called as a “heavy bird”

The place Hüma lives in is so high and invisible, so wiole and limitless. That’s why it is believed that there is no place Hüma can’t reach.

Because of this in Turkish Mythology it is accepted as the noblest bird of all.

Hoopoe The most important feature of this bird is that he can see the water underneath of the earth. He is so loyal to his wife, so respectful against his parents.

He never finds a new one when his wife dies. He supplies the food for the parents when they get older.

When his mother dies, he carries her on his head until he finds a suitable place. Because of this, God gives it a crown to his head as a reward.

Eagle The Eagle is accepted as the king of the other birds. In the ancient times in Turkish belief it has an important place, for example Yakut Turks people swear for the sake of Eagle

If they don’t do so, It is believed that those who never swear truely and perfectly, they might have bad affairs. The women without babies pray to the eagle for getting a baby.

After the islamisim the Eagle, just like before the Islamisim, is accepted as the symbol of power and sovereignity. It is also used as the amblem including the meaning of power of the empire.

Owl People accept the Owl as an evil. We also come across the Owl in poems as a living creature in haunted places as the reprensentative of death.

Nightingale As it is a desperate lower and has a nice voice, the Nightingale is the most remarkable bird in literature.

Peacock The Peacock opens his tail just like a fan. It is so gorgeous, full of colourful feathers resembling lover’s hair. The basic colour is green.

It also has a beautiful long neck and nice wings full of eyes on them. It is also accepted as a heaven bird. Lover’s walking resembles Peacock’s so the poets use it in their poems in literature.

Crow As it’s colour is black, the crow represents night and dark so in literature, the poets’ attitude against the crow isn’t good.

Crane Cranes fly over distant countries, so poets show special interest to them. Crane is often mentioned in the literature as the symbol of love, logging and homesick.

The poets in poems think that crane brings news from the lovers in distant countries but while coming back they might be hunted by hawks. So this sad situation is told in the poems in literature.
