Planning Emergency Routes Problem 1.2 Euclid’s chief of police has hired you to map out emergency routes that will allow paramedics and police officers to arrive at the scene of an accident as quickly as possible. She wants the plan to include routes for automobiles & helicopters

1) Give the coordinates of each location, and give precise directions for an emergency car route from the starting location to the ending location. 2) Find the total distance, in blocks, a police car would have to travel to get from the starting location to the ending location along your route. Police station to City Hall Hospital to City Hall Hospital to the Art Museum Police Station the the Stadium 4 blocks 10 blocks 17 blocks 9 blocks

B) A helicopter can travel directly from one point to another. Find the total distance, in blocks, a helicopter would have to travel to get from one starting location to the ending location. You may find it helpful to use a centimeter ruler (1 cm = 1 block) Police station to City Hall Hospital to City Hall Hospital to the Art Museum Police Station the the Stadium

B) A helicopter can travel directly from one point to another. Find the total distance, in blocks, a helicopter would have to travel to get from one starting location to the ending location. You may find it helpful to use a centimeter ruler (1 cm = 1 block) Police station to City Hall Hospital to City Hall Hospital to the Art Museum Police Station the the Stadium 4 blocks About 7.2 blocks 13 blocks About 7.3 blocks

1) How much farther is it from the greenhouse to the stadium by car than by helicopter? 2) How much farther is it from the hospital to the art museum by car than by helicopter? 3)Will the helicopter distance between two locations always be shorter than the car distance? 2 blocks farther by car. 4 blocks farther by car. The helicopter distance will always be shorter unless the two points are in a vertical or horizontal straight line, in which case the distances are equal.

The shortest distance between two points is a straight line. Part of car distance
