CIVIL AIR PATROL CADET PROTECTION POLICY The Cadet Perspective

Policy The Civil Air Patrol has “zero tolerance” for all forms of child abuse and drug abuse within the CAP program. The protection of CAP cadets is the highest priority The best effort has been made to eliminate both child abuse and drug abuse from all CAP activities.

Types of Cadet Abuse Sexual –Molestation, touching, contact, exposure, suggestions Physical –Assault, hitting, kicking, pushing Hazing –Conduct whereby someone causes another to suffer or to be exposed to any activity that is cruel, abusive, humiliating, oppressive, demeaning, or harmful. MentalEmotional

Hazing? You have been inspected and your shoes did not have a high shine. After the inspection, your flight sergeant yells at you and makes you do 50 push-ups. YESNO

NO? Hazing Conduct whereby someone causes another to suffer or to be exposed to any activity that is cruel, abusive, humiliating, oppressive, demeaning, or harmful. Examples of hazing include using exercise as punishment or assigning remedial training that does not fit the deficiency.

Prevention Use good judgment and discretion when selecting senior members, cadets, and other persons to conduct or supervise cadet activities Encourage at least two senior members to be present at all cadet activities Provide parents with calendar of activities and notification of changes Provide parents with opportunity to meet senior members

If You Are a Victim, What Next? Aggressors may be male or female, young or old. Individuals who present the biggest risk are not strangers You are not to blame, the aggressor is responsible

What If you Suspect Something? Talk to a friend? Tell your flight commander? Tell your cadet commander? Tell a senior member?

Tell The Squadron Commander In matters of Cadet protection, there is no chain of command. You report to the next level up. YOU Commander
