Act 1 Scene 7 Kaylee Caleb Donovan Pat

Summary Macbeth is tormented by his wife’s desire to kill Duncan which are: 1.Macbeth is a loyal subject 2. He’s Duncans host 3. It would start an uproar because he’s a good king Lady Macbeth is frustrated with him because he doesn’t want to proceed with the murder. Lady Macbeth then insults his manhood and then show him how cruel she really is. She finally convinces him to proceed to kill Duncan.

Character Understanding Lady Macbeth: – seductive, cruel, and lacking immoral. Basically she’ll pretty much do anything to get what she wants. She even insulted Macbeth’s manhood to obtain the thing she wants most; to be Queen. Macbeth: – is afraid yet ambitious at the same time and we see that he is easily persuaded (mostly by his seductive wife) Duncan: – this is another example of irony because he has no idea what Macbeth and Lady Macbeth are planning to do.

Important lines “Art thou afeard to be the same in thine own act and valour as thou art in desire” – Essentially Lady Macbeth is insulting Macbeth by saying that he will be as weak in the act of murdering Duncan as he is in bed. This is important because it serves to motivate Macbeth into completing the murder. “I would, while it was smiling in my face, have pluck’d my nipple from his bonesless gums, And dash’d the brains out, had I so sworn as you have done this” – This line is important because it shows the limitless cruelty that Lady Macbeth has by stating the lengths to which she will uphold a promise.
