Taking Care of Your Teeth After Eating Sweets

You have heard it your whole life… Eating sweets leads to tooth decay.

Here’s Why Sugar feed the bacteria in your mouth and starts decay by producing enamel-destroying acids

PLAQUE Holds the acid on your teeth to destroy them. If full of harmful bacteria!

ACIDS Attack your teeth for at least 20 minutes after eating. The more you eat sugary foods, the more often your teeth are attacked by acid.

Critical Factor It is not how much sweet food you eat But how often you eat it and how sticky the food is.

REVIEW from food pyramid Most sugar you eat is in the food because of the manufacturer. Try to avoid processed food that contains sugar. You have to read labels carefully. Remember… Even a small amount of sugar will allow bacteria to produce decay causing acids.

SO… If you are going to eat sugary foods, eat them only with meals Remember to brush your teeth when you are done. Everyday snacking should be done with a wide variety of non-sugary foods.

Less of these… Sugar (aka: dextrose, sucrose, corn syrup, heavy syrup, and others) Candy Cookies & Cake Soft drinks Sugar sweetened cereals Bubble gum and sugared chewing gum

More of these… Fresh fruit Popcorn Cheese Sugarless gum Pizza Raw Vegetables Pickles and Olives

Brushing your teeth after eating sweets is important!

DON’T FORGET!!!
