Six Traits of Effective Writing Rubric Review

Stimulating Ideas Clear and Strong Focus Address the prompt accurately Appropriate details/ examples to support thesis Facts Incidents Reasons Examples Statistics ** Cannot be exaggerated or “far-fetched”… avoid definitive words (ALL, ALWAYS, NOTHING…) Evidence of understanding Show DEPTH… no superficial support… no vagueness… no ambiguity

Logical Organization Sentence to Sentence Paragraph to paragraph Method of Organization is effectively chosen Clear beginning, middle, end of essay Transitions used (SO, AND, BUT are NOT transitions Ideas are not loosely organized Ideas/ sentences do NOT jump around

Engaging Voice DON’T YELL AT YOUR READER!!! Well, don’t have a conversation, like, with your reader… Learn how to be enthusiastic and passionate, yet - do not accuse or yell at your reader -do not exaggerate -use an appropriate tone No CAPS, no italics, no bold, no !!!!!!!!!
