F OUR CORNERS

D O NOW : Go through your time article and notes from the commencement speaker and mark 6 quotations that could help you argue your side of the argument Write down a brief statement that states if you think your generation is narcissistic or not.

S ELFIE ADDICTS ? Take notes on this please

F OUR CORNERS Agreedisagree Strongly agreestrongly disagree

R ULES OF FOUR CORNERS Each side of the argument has to have someone in it (you cannot all agree or strongly agree) otherwise you will all sit and write a statement as to why you agree You have to choose a corner (you cannot stand in between corners) Everyone has to chime in at some point Be respectful—raise your hand, don’t just yell out!

Millenials are less educated than other generations

Millenials take education for granted

Millenials lack empathy and have trouble understanding other points of view

Past generations would have behaved in a similar, or worse, fashion had they had the access to technology that millenials do

The expectations and pressure put on millenials drives them to be narcissistic; it isn’t their fault, it is the prior generations fault.

Social media is a hiding spot for teens and has made them bad at face to face interaction.

Millenials are obsessed with social media

Millenials expect to be handed things (promotions, trophies..) instead of working for them.

You are not special…(your generation, that is)

Society is in danger because millenials are unpredictable and have a hard time growing up

The author is biased because he is 41, and doesn’t understand the millenials

Millenials only care about things related to them

E XIT SLIP On a half sheet of paper, answer the following questions: Did your opinion on the matter change or sway at all during the debate? Why or why not? Were you surprised to hear your peers ideas? Why or why not? Do you think that this debate will make you change your timed write thesis and ideas, or will it strengthen your argument? Why or why not? How do you think you did during 4 corners? Do you deserve a 4, 3, 2, or 1 for the day? Why? Give at least 2 examples.
