Discuss ways in which the proposed studies will benefit from unique features of the scientific environment or subject population or will employ useful collaborative arrangement. ENVIRONMENT

Early Stage Investigators (ESIs) – will require the institutional investment in the success of the investigator. –e.g. classes, travel, training, collegial support, administrative support, and financial support. (i.e. – GET A LETTER FROM YOUR CHAIR) Definition of Early Stage Investigator (ESI): Within 10 years of completing their terminal research degree or within ten years of completing their medical residency. 5 Investigators: What the reviewers look for  Are the PD/PIs, collaborators, and other key researchers well suited to the project?  If Early Stage Investigators or New Investigators, do they have appropriate experience and training?  If established, have they demonstrated an ongoing record of accomplishments that have advanced their field(s)?  If the project is collaborative or multi-PD/PI, do the investigators have complementary and integrated expertise; are their leadership approach, governance and organizational structure appropriate for the project?

Biographical Sketch Section A - Personal Statement Briefly describe why your experience and qualifications make you particularly well-suited for your role (e.g. PD/PI, collaborator, mentor, etc.) in the project that is the subject of the application.  Training / technical experience  Previous experimental work relating to project  May identify up to four peer reviewed publications that highlight your qualifications for the project  Impediments to past productivity (family care, illness, disability, active service. This part of the Biosketch WILL have to be revised for EVERY proposal submission depending on your role on the project.

Biographical Sketch Section B – Positions and Honors List in chronological order previous positions, concluding with the present position. List any honors. Include present membership on any Federal Government public advisory committee.

Biographical Sketch Section C – Contribution to Science – NEW!!! Briefly describe up to five of your most significant contributions to science.  Historical background that frames the scientific problem; the central finding(s); the influence of the finding(s) on the progress of science or the application of those finding(s) to health or technology; and your specific role in the described work.  Reference up to four peer-reviewed publications or other non- publication research products that are relevant to the described contribution.  Provide a URL to a full list of your published work as found in a publicly available digital database such as SciENcv or My Bibliography ( which are maintained by the US National Library of Medicine.

Biographical Sketch Section D – Research Support List both selected ongoing and completed research projects for the past three years (Federal or non-Federally-supported). Begin with the projects that are most relevant to the research proposed in the application. Briefly indicate the overall goals of the projects and responsibilities of the key person identified on the Biographical Sketch. Do not include number of person months or direct costs.
