Schedule / Within every eight school days, 2 nd through 5 th Grade students will visit the general music classroom twice, the piano lab once, computer lab once, and P.E. four times. PK, Kindergarten, and 1 st go to P.E. and general music or computer lab each day. 1 st Grade will also start going into the piano lab in late September or early October.

Grading / Students are given numerous opportunities to demonstrate understanding and mastery of music skills. (written, aural, performance, observation, participation)

Music Memory This year students in 3 rd through 5 th grade will be listening to 16 different pieces of music. They will learn to recognize the pieces and composers. At the end of the year, there will be a “Music Memory” contest to test their knowledge of these 16 pieces.

What did music class look like in the 70’s and 80’s? Music teacher played piano and the children sang. Not a set standard for reading and writing music Music programs were not in every school (this is still the case in some states)

What does music class look like today? Blend of Orff, Kodály, and Dalcroze Emphasis on world music as well as Western music Music and technology Music and movement The Mozart Effect
