Presentation transcript:

We offer 3 large performance groups that your child will have a chance to participate in during the Activity Period at Orchard. Orchestra, Band and Choir are the options your children can chose from. The Activity Period is scheduled daily from 3:00-3:35.

The program consists of 2 activity period large group instruction times and a 40- minute large group lesson that is pulled from the general music class.

The day your child is assigned to music is the day they will need to bring their instrument to school. (Red, White or Blue day) A rotation calendar for the whole year is provided on page 22 of the student agenda.

Activity Period will remain on a M-F Schedule The students will also be assigned two afternoon times a week based on the instrument they choose. Check your child’s agenda to see what days they need to have their instrument at school. Gentle reminders may be needed at first.

String Instruments Offered violin viola cello String Bass

String students will be working from the Essential Elements 2000 book for home instruction. This book can be purchased at the local Academy Music Store in town. We will also use the Orchestra Expressions book 1 as an in class instruction resource which I will provide for the students.

All string students need to be sized! If your child is playing a string instrument they will need to be sized for the correct instrument during their music class this week. Most students start out on a ½ or ¾ size instrument at this level. Very small students may use 1/ 8 or ¼ size instrument.

Cello and String Bass students will be assigned school instruments for school instruction. They will leave their rented instruments at home to practice on. Students will bring their cello to school if is out of tune or needs to have finger tapes. String Bass students, I will come to your house to put tapes on your instrument and tune it. Please me when you have the instrument at home, so I can make arrangements for an in home visit.

Please send me an if your child has been taking private lessons because I need to hear them to place them properly. This way I will have your contact information and can let you know their schedule. Advanced students will have the opportunity to: Help teach Start a new instrument Play with the other advanced students at Orchard Independent practice time.

Any student wanting to play saxophone must first start out on Clarinet. Then in January only the top 4 students will be placed onto Saxophone.

Band Contact People Please questions to Mr. Luce Mr. Mauldin Mr. Tomko

If your child wants to do band and strings, they must take an outside private lesson on 1 of the instruments. This is because with the new schedule we only have one music class now.

Please be patient and encouraging to your young musician. Food for thought: Remember amateurs built the arc and professionals built the Titanic

Your child may choose to exit their musical program at the end of the first semester with written permission from you. If your child does not wish to participate in a musical activity, they will be assigned a visual arts class and study hall during the 3:00-3:35 Activity Period. The classroom teachers are not available at this time to work with children.
