Presentation transcript:

6 th Grade Art Students develop artistic skills using clay, pastels, paint, sculpture, collage and drawing. They learn about art from world cultures and develop artistic self-expression. An art supply kit is required.

Students learn to read music and play an instrument. Band directors will meet with you to help you select the best instrument: flute, trumpet, clarinet, trombone, saxophone, bassoon, euphonium, tuba or percussion. Instruments are available to rent or to purchase. Navo Band

Choir Students learn to read music and to sing with good vocal technique. Separate choirs for boys and girls. A uniform T-shirt is required.

Orchestra Viola Bass Violin Cello Classes for beginners and for 2 nd year players. Fiddle Fair in May where the director will help you select the best instrument for your child. Instruments can be rented or purchased.

Theater Students learn the basics of theater and acting: script writing, technical theater, stage movement, voice, pantomime and performance. A musical is produced each spring in collaboration with the Navo choir.

College and Career Readiness

Naviance Family Connection The path to college and career readiness begins with self-discovery. NFC’s self-discovery tools let students learn about their strengths and interests, while assessments provide suggestions for how to apply personality traits in school, career and life. Students gain a clear understanding of the academic preparation required to pursue careers that are likely to be fulfilling for them. This insight means that students are more likely to successfully accomplish their post-secondary goals.

Naviance for 6 th Graders 6 th grade students begin their journey of self discovery by completing a survey. The survey is a set of questions that asks the student to think about personal, social and academic goals for 6 th grade. At the end of the year, students revisit the survey to see if their goals have been met. Parents are able to log on to the student’s Naviance account to see how he/she answered the survey.
