Kate Milton and Jonathan Walters Socially Responsible Employment 4 th February 2015

Purpose Partnership working with Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), Job Centre Plus and NHS organisations to support people to gain skills to help them find permanent employment. Long-term objective – reduce health inequalities experienced from being long-term unemployed, and improve mental health

Convened a meeting with NHS Organisations, DWP and JCP, and some third sector organisations with an interest in this area – particularly Pluss; Explained how JCP could help with recruitment and selection; Agreed that a trial work experience programme was feasible; Local NHS organisations took it forward with quarterly meetings with NHS England and DWP to track progress. What did we do?

Vacancy advertisement via Universal Jobmatch; Targeted campaigns identifying customers to match vacancy requirements; CV compilation: Interview prep Pre-employment training; Sector based work academies; Work experience placements; Work trials; Matching; Sifting What can JCP do?

Places for six people – six week programme; Selection day – two sessions, 10 applicants per session; Individual interviews; Team building exercise; Admin and clerical vacancies; Joint induction for all organisations; Rotational work experience programme The work experience programme

Information Governance; Health Safety and Risk Assessment: Infection Control: Moving and Handling: Six Cs Basic Life Support; Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards; Induction included:

Partnership Working across NHS; DWP and JCP and third sector; Commitment of organisations to make it work; Induction; Five people are either working or no longer claiming benefits, and one has been offered a placement inside the NHS; Of the original applicants, two were offered jobs immediately without taking part in the programme. What went well?

Participants need to be clear about the commitment from the outset; Folder for each placement with CVs and contact details; More information about placements for each candidate at the selection event; Evaluation by the candidates of each placement for future improvement; More time in each placement to get to grips with the role. What could have been better?
