Use a Conversational Voice in the Cafeteria

Using a conversational voice means to be quiet and not being extremely loud or obnoxious. When talking in the cafeteria you should be quiet so the cafeteria doesn’t get too loud.

During lunch April is walking back to her seat when her friend walks up behind her. They quietly talk about their plans for after school.

During lunch Zachary sits at the table. As he is sitting, Dennis runs up behind him and screams “Hurry up, Zach! Sit down!!!” Why was this wrong? What should Zach have done instead?

A large group of students are telling loud jokes that make fun of other people; everyone laughs and gives each other high fives.

Tom, Sara, Rachel and Megan sit huddled together at breakfast before school to quietly discuss their homework from last night.

You should be quiet when you are in the cafeteria. If you make loud noises or talk too loudly you will add to all the noise. Because there are so many people in the cafeteria at one time, it is important for everyone to speak quietly so the overall noise level is not loud.
