Pencils! Pencils! How many pencils did you count? Created by: Kristin Kaye Grubb Early Childhood Major at the University of Rio Grande.

Introduction: This web quest has been designed to help preschoolers with early counting skills.

Purpose: This web quest is intended to meet the following Ohio Department of Education Early Learning Math Standard: Number, Number Sense and Operations, Indicator #4: Determine “how many” in sets of 5 or fewer objects.

Directions for Parents and Teachers: 1.) Before exploring this web quest with your child or student, allow the child to practice counting concrete objects (i.e., toy cars, spoons, cups, etc.) (This activity will introduce and prepare your child or student for the web quest.)

Directions for Parents and Teachers Continued: 2.) Completing the Web Quest activity: A. Have the child count the number of pencils in each row out loud. B. Give the child immediate feedback. Tell the child whether or not his or her answer is correct. If the child gives an incorrect answer, encourage him or her to recount the pencils.

Directions for the Student: Hi! Welcome to this web quest! Today, you are going to count the number of pencils in each row. Count out loud so that your parent or teacher can hear you. Smile and have fun!
