When you point your browser to a website, many sites send a “cookie” to you and demand one in return. A “cookie” is a short identification message.
Likewise, all , SMS & IM messages imbed sender information in their “header” – a history of the message and the route it took. The sender’s IP address is always a 9-11 digit number, surrounded by square brackets, usually after the word “Received:”. The IP address is that of the Internet provider – Sympatico, MSN, Citenet, Videotron
To find the name and address of the send’s Internet Provider, Point your browser to Type URL in the Search box. Double click on the first URL beginning with “NET”.
The last screen brings you to the Internet Provider’s information screen. Notice the telephone number and address dedicated to abuse. Call or write them and they will take action.

Locating a Header in an Message The location of the header depends on the client (software) used. G-Mail Log in to Gmail. Open the message you'd like to view headers for. Click the down arrow next to Reply, at the top-right of the message pane. Select Show original. Hotmail Log in to your Hotmail account. Click Options next to the tabs. Select Mail from the left-side menu. Click Mail Display Settings. Under Message Headers, select Advanced. Click OK. The full headers for all of your messages will now be available. Return to your inbox, and open the message you'd like to view headers for. Yahoo Log in to your Yahoo! Mail account. Open the message you'd like to view headers for. Click Full Headers at the top of your message.
