REFLECTION Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbit is certainly one of the best pieces of literature I have read. The storyline which evolves around a young girl name Winnie Foster, branches out into important issues about life. The structure of the book focuses on family, love, friendship, deceit, selflessness, and magic. Through a mythical topic, such as the spring water, the Tuck’s family secret to immortal life, The author ventures into the challenges of decisions or choices we make in life. In a time when the better part of today’s society strife so hard to maintain their youthfulness, Tuck everlasting certainly makes the reader reevaluate the consequences of stunting natural human growth. The following slides will depict visual images and written information which captures the important events that were carried out throughout the book.

FRIENDSHIP Children often times seek to have friendships with extraordinary things, sometimes imaginary. This young child holding the frog represents Winnie Foster and her childhood relationship with a toad.

THE WOOD The wood is the central setting of the story. It is where Winnie gets lost and encounters The Immortals, who are the Tuck family.

The Tuck’s family secret caused them to live a nomadic life. NOMADIC FAMILY Nomadic Family, Western Mongolia The Tuck’s family secret caused them to live a nomadic life. They could not stay in one particular place for a long period of time, because the people around them would suspect and learn of their immortality. In reading this book I was certainly inspired by the strong support, bond and genuine love they had for one another.

“That water – it stops you right where you are. If you had a drink of SPRING WATER FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH “That water – it stops you right where you are. If you had a drink of It today, you’d stay a little girl forever. You’d never grow up, not ever.” The water in this story represents the potion that caused the Tuck’s to live forever.

Although Winnie ultimately chose not to live an immortal life, ETERNAL LOVE Although Winnie ultimately chose not to live an immortal life, I got the impression that from the momment she met Jesse Tuck her feelings for him lasted through out her life time. I also believe that Jesse’s heart will forever love Winnie.

MORTAL Perhaps the greatest thing about living and experiencing ups and downs is that as human beings we each eventually meet our resting place. Prior to reading this story I probably would have wanted to live forever, however after reevaluating the pros and cons I feel differently. The Tuck family will never meet that resting place.
