There is one more place to look for interesting information about mammals, reptiles and birds. Visit our Book Nook center and look at animal books with your partner. Don’t forget to write or draw interesting things you are reading about in your animal notebooks. What did you learn about animals? Choose an animal and make a web with your partner. Choose one of the following options to show what you learned. 1. Make an animal mask with the materials in art center and act out your animal. You must tell what type of animal it is and any other important information you learned. Make an animal poster showing what you learned about different types of animals. Make a book about animals. I followed all directions. I was reminded 1-3 times to stay on task. I followed some directions. I was reminded several times to stay on task I did not follow directions well. I was off task most of the time. Cooperating with partner We worked well together and completed all parts of the project. We presented our project together too. We were able to help each other and work together to complete all parts of the project. We had some difficulty working together. We had to take some of our free choice center time to work on our project. We had a lot of difficulty talking and working together. Instead of working, we played around. Final Project Completion My final project demonstrated a complete understanding of animals, i.e. types, body coverings, movement, diet and habitat. My final project demonstrated a partial understanding of animals, i.e. types, body coverings, movement, diet, and habitat. My final project demonstrated little understanding of animals, i.e. types, body coverings, movement, diet, and habitat. My final project was incomplete and lacked an understanding of animals, i.e. types, body coverings, movement, diet, etc. Presentation of Project I participated fully in the presentation of my project with a clear voice and included many details about my animal or animals. I participated partially in the presentation of my project. My voice was somewhat clear and I gave some details. I participated very little in the presentation of my project. My audience had difficulty hearing me. I was unable to present my project due to lack of initiative or ability to follow directions.

You have learned that there are different types of animals. You should be proud of yourself. If you want to learn more about animals try some of the following ideas: 1. Go to your local zoo. Try to obtain zoo membership so that you can go often. Take along a notebook so that you can draw and write about the animals you observe. 2. Visit a local farm. Observe the animals that live there. Ask the farm workers any questions you have about the animals. Draw or write about what you are learning in a notebook. 3. This WebQuest covers kindergarten life science Ky. Core Content 4.1 * Organisms have basic needs and can survive only in environments in which their needs are met * Animals need air, water, and food. * Animals can be classified into groups by using various characteristics (e.g. body coverings, body structures, habitats, behaviors). This WebQuest meets KYTS 6 through integration of technology into instruction. It provides a variety of authentic opportunities for students to further their learning. This WebQuest meets NETS*T by using technology to design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments. Students are able to explore concepts and learn at their own pace. They can work collaboratively with a partner to discuss concepts/content. Here are some ideas. You may introduce the different tasks during whole class morning meeting and practice navigating the WebQuest together on the Smart Board. Then allow time for pairs of students to explore during literacy centers at computer work stations. You may want to have your assistant or a parent helper stay close by to the computer work stations to assist students with completing and focusing on certain tasks. It would be helpful to make this a 1-2 week long project. Many kindergarten students would lose focus if it is extended for too long of a period. Allowing time each morning, before literacy centers, to explore the WebQuest together and guide students in their discussion/discovery of different animals would be best. *** Click fish at top to go to next teacher page

*** Click fish at top to go to first teacher page Introduction Task Process Evaluation Conclusion Teacher page Once students have completed all parts of the WebQuest and their final project, you may conduct presentation practice sessions at morning meeting for a week. Give the students feedback on their presentation using the rubric. Allow the whole class to begin giving feedback after you demonstrate this a few times. Prepare for an animal presentation by inviting parents or other kindergarten classes to your room to be the audience. Do this over the course of a week. It would be too cumbersome for students to sit for 13 presentations straight. You may write an invitation as a whole class shared writing activity. Then make copies to send home and to other classrooms. Most important of all make learning about animals exciting and fun. Do whole class animal movement to the Animal Action song for kinesthetic times. Play animal charades . Encourage students to say the name of the animal as well as the type.
