AMERICAN BEAUTY DIRECTED BY SAM MENDES By Britti, Kathryn, Jodie and Saiesha Angela Hayes

Summary of Angela Hayes Angela Hayes shares an important relevance to the film American Beauty with the way she comes across as something she really isn’t. The movie “American Beauty” parades beauty in various ways such as, unusual, unique beauty and conventional beauty. Angela Hayes is a self-centred and extremely insecure character who fits into the idea of conventional beauty. She comes across as the perfect American teenage girl with her confidence, long blonde hair, her popularity and she is a high school cheerleader. However she is not really what she seems to be on the outside. In reality she is so insecure and not as confident as she makes herself out to be. She is lonely and scared of being irrelevant to the people in her society, and despises the thought of her being an ordinary teenager. This is an important puzzle piece in the film as it highlights the materialistic aspect of beauty and shows the helpless desire of being someone so different to who you are to fit the idea of perfection in society.
