Presentation transcript:

I don’t know what to say Good morning - hello How do you do? – You OK? – How are you? Nice weather Have you got a job? Have you met someone? Are you felling better? Have you made up?

I don’t know what to say I wish … I hope … May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand. May you know the peace that passes understanding.

I don’t know what to say Focus on the other person Listen, think. Draw on your own experience but don’t overly talk about it. Be generous Be well balanced talk about the positives talk about the negatives

Peter and Gentiles 11Peter saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. 12It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air. 13Then a voice told him, "Get up, Peter. Kill and eat." 14"Surely not, Lord!" Peter replied. "I have never eaten anything impure or unclean." 15The voice spoke to him a second time, "Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.“ (Acts 10) 11When Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. 12For prior to the coming of certain men from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he began to withdraw and hold himself aloof, fearing the party of the circumcision. (Galatians 2) 12I wish that those who are troubling you would even mutilate themselves. (Galatians 5)

Scattered (Diaspora) Aliens (strangers) Sent out (Apostle) Trials, Never seen Jesus Perishing, spoilt, grief

1 Peter 1:1-9 1Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To God's elect, strangers in the world, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia, 2who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance. 3Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade-- kept in heaven for you, 5who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. Celebrating grace while acknowledging dis-grace brings peace Be generous in time and thought and word. Mostly focus on the other.

6In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7These have come so that your faith -- of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire -- may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honour when Jesus Christ is revealed. 8Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls. Thank God for his Word to us Celebrating grace while acknowledging dis-grace brings peace Be generous in time and thought and word. Mostly focus on the other.

All my days I will sing this song of gladness Give my praise to the Fountain of delights; For in my helplessness You heard my cry And waves of mercy poured down on my life. I will trust in the cross of my Redeemer I will sing of the blood that never fails; Of sins forgiven, of conscience cleansed Of death defeated and life without end. Beautiful Saviour, Wonderful Counsellor Clothed in majesty, Lord of history You’re the Way, the Truth, the Life. Star of the Morning, glorious in holiness You’re the Risen One, heaven’s Champion, And You reign, You reign over all I long to be where the praise is never-ending Yearn to dwell where the glory never fades; Where countless worshippers will share one song And cries of ‘worthy’ will honour the Lamb Celebrating grace while acknowledging dis-grace brings peace Be generous in time and thought and word. Mostly focus on the other.

Confession Purify my heart Let me be as gold And precious silver. Purify my heart Let me be as gold Pure gold. Refiner’s fire My heart’s one desire Is to be holy Set apart for You, Lord. I choose to be holy Set apart for You, my Master Ready to do Your will. Confession Purify my heart Cleanse me from within And make me holy. Purify my heart Cleanse me from my sin Deep within. Celebrating grace while acknowledging dis-grace brings peace Be generous in time and thought and word. Mostly focus on the other.

1) Men of faith, rise up and sing Of the great and glorious King; You are strong when you feel weak In your brokenness complete. Shout to the north and the south Sing to the east and the west Jesus is Saviour to all Lord of heaven and earth. 2) Rise up women of the truth Stand and sing to broken hearts Who can know the healing power Of our glorious King of love. 3) We’ve been through fire We’ve been through rain; We’ve been refined by the power of His name. We’ve fallen deeper in love with You You’ve burned the truth on our lips. 4) Rise up church with broken wings; Fill this place with songs again Of our God who reigns on high By His grace again we’ll fly. Celebrating grace while acknowledging dis-grace brings peace Be generous in time and thought and word. Mostly focus on the other.

Blessing As God's elect may you experience the sanctifying work of the Spirit, the liberating obedience in, of & to Jesus Christ the mercy of your heavenly Father May Grace and peace be yours in abundance. And may the Blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always. Celebrating grace while acknowledging dis-grace brings peace Be generous in time and thought and word. Mostly focus on the other.
