Cause and Effect

Tim forgot his math book, so he could not do his homework. Sentence Tim forgot his math book, so he could not do his homework.

“If and Then” Statement If Tim forgets his math book, then he can not do his homework.

Cause Cause is the reason why something happens. Tim forgot his math book, so he could not do his homework. Tim forgot his math book. (Reason why Tim can not do his math homework.)

Effect Effect- what happens because of something else. Tim forgot his math book, so he could not do his homework. He could not do his homework. (This happened because he forgot his math book.)

Sentence If and Then Statement Keegan was hungry because he skipped lunch. If and Then Statement If Keegan skips lunch, then he will be hungry.

Cause Cause is the reason why something happens. Keegan was hungry because he skipped lunch. Keegan skipped lunch. (This is why Keegan is hungry.)

Effect Effect is what happens because of something else. Keegan was hungry because he skipped lunch. Keegan is hungry. (This happened because he skipped lunch.)

Since the class was good this week, they were able to watch a movie on Friday. The cause is: the class was good this week. Why is this the cause? The class being good is the reason that they were able to watch a movie on Friday. The effect is: watch a movie on Friday. Why is this the effect? They got to watch a movie on Friday because they were good this week.
