A graphic organizer follows to present how to make a compound sentence using FANBOYS. The meaning of each conjunction is then explained, so students know when each one is appropriate to use. To ensure students have an understanding of the structure of compound sentences, one is displayed as an example. When each subject, predicate, and the coordinating conjunctions are clicked, their part of speech will show. It is important for students to remember compound sentences have 2 subjects and 2 predicates, joined together by a comma and a coordinating conjunction. In groups, students will work together to manipulate sentences, periods, commas, and FANBOYS to create compound sentences.
