Write a paragraph about your first week at Anderson Write a paragraph about your first week at Anderson. Write it as if you were writing to a friend your age who has never been here. Include emotions, sensory imagery, descriptions, and figurative language. How did you feel about being a freshman? Were you lost? What did you think of your teachers, classes, and peers? This paragraph should be 4-5 good sentences and take up approximately half a page. Use complete words and appropriate language. JOURNAL: “NOUNS”

A noun is a word that names something: person, place, thing, or idea

My mom loves to cook. My teacher is so funny. A common noun names any one of a class of people, places, or things. They are not capitalized. blocks horse trombone

Search for common & proper nouns Underline the words used as nouns in the following paragraph. Identify the nouns using P for proper nouns and C for common nouns. My favorite part of school is lunch. Yesterday, Deanna forgot her wallet in her car so she had to buy lunch from the cafeteria. She had meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Mr. Jack, a really nice lunch server, gave her an extra cookie, so she was pretty happy. Anderson has a good lunch, but I wanted Whataburger. I hopped in my Jeep and drove to get a patty melt. It was delicious! And don’t worry, I didn’t forget the fancy ketchup!

Abstract nouns name something you cannot perceive through any of your five senses. It may be a feeling or a state of being. *may also be common or proper love days (Monday, Tuesday, etc.) & holidays (Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc.)

Now, go back to your journal entry Switch with a partner and read their entry Underline all common nouns Circle all proper nouns and make sure they are CAPITALIZED Return journals to owner Look at the nouns identified and write down: THREE abstract nouns THREE concrete nouns If you do not have three of either, add in a sentence with one Ex. “I was full of PANIC when I walked through the doors.” (abstract) Ex. “MS. RAYMOND instantly became my favorite teacher.” (concrete)
