Psalm 106 Joy in Forgiveness of Israel’s sins

 Psalm 105 we see God's faithfulness in keeping His covenant.  Psalm 106 we see the unfaithfulness of Israel.

Psalm 106 begins and ends with hallelujah “Praise the Lord”. The space between two praises is filled with the details of Israel's sin and the extraordinary patience of God; and we do well to praise the Lord when the theme is sin of man and Grace of the Lord. – – Charles Spurgeon

Psalm 106  Opening prayer and praises.  Story of the nation's sins with confessions.  Closing prayer and praises.

(Ps 106:1) Praise the Lord oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good for His mercy endures forever. Why Israel (people) do not praise the Lord?  sometimes people do not realize the blessings the Lord provide.  easy to acknowledge earthly signs difficult to acknowledge the goodness in suffering when the Lord visits offenders with the rod of correction.

(Ps 106:1) Praise the Lord oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good for His mercy endures forever. Why Israel (people) praise(s) the Lord?  for all people.  Praises are free from any requests  our job in heaven?  man never stops to sin; God never stops to be merciful. (Ps 67:3) “Let the peoples praise You, O God; Let all the peoples praise You.”

The Ark of covenant was captured by the Philistines and Shiloh was destroyed. When God brought the Ark back, it was kept in Kiriath Jearim for 20 years. (1 Chronicles 16:34) Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

(Psalm 106:4) “Remember me, O Lord, with the favor You have toward Your people. Oh, visit me with your salvation.” Good-ashamed-repent Bad-trials-remember-repent, regardless of His wise ways to bring us back, He always seeks after our salvation. (Luke 23:42) “Then he said to Jesus, "Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom“

(Joshua 2:11) “For the LORD your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.” Any idea who said that? Rahab the harlot who saved the two spies

(Psalm 106:6) “We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.”  Here begins a confession  national confession?  they shared national privileges, therefore they shared national guilt.

(Psalm 106:8) "nevertheless He saved them for His name's sake, that He might make His mighty power known." When He could find no other reason for His mercy He found it in His own Glory and seized the opportunity to display His power.

(Psalm 106:9) "He rebuked the Red Sea also, and it dried up; so He led them through the depths, as through the wilderness."

(Psalm 106:12-13) “ 12 Then they believed His words; they sang His praise. 13 they soon forgot His works; they did not wait for His counsel.” Peace Sin SufferRepent The Spiritual Cycle of the people of Israel in Judges Story of the man in a storm.

(Psalm 106:14-15) “ 14 But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tested God in the desert. 15 and He gave them their request, but sent leanness into their soul.” A prayer  may be answered in anger  may be denied in love

(Psalm 106:16-18) “ 16 When they envied Moses in the camp, and Aaron the saint of the Lord, 17 the earth opened up and swallowed Dathan, and covered the faction of Abiram. 18 a fire was kindled in their company; the flame burned up the wicked. (Zechariah 2:8) For he who touches you touches the apple of His eye.

(Psalm 106:19) “ 19 They made a calf in Horeb, and worshiped the molded image. Should we judge the people of Israel? Story of the monk.

(Psalm 106:28) “ 28 They joined themselves also to Baal of Peor, and ate sacrifices made to the dead." Numbers 25:1-3 1 Now Israel remained in Acacia Grove, and the people began to commit harlotry with the women of Moab. 2 They invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods. 3 So Israel was joined to Baal of Peor, and the anger of the LORD was aroused against Israel.

(Psalm 106:34-35) “ 34 They did not destroy the peoples, concerning whom the Lord had commanded them, 35 but they mingled with the Gentiles and learned their works.” Description of the problem

(Psalm 106:36-38) “ 36 They served their idols, which became a snare to them. 37 they even sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons, 38 and shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; and the land was polluted with blood.” Description of the problem 2

(Psalm 106:40) “ 40 Therefore the wrath of the Lord was kindled against His people, so that He abhorred his own inheritance." Consequences

(Psalm 106:41…46) “ 41 Nevertheless He regarded their affliction, when He heard their cry…… 46 He also made them to be pitied by all those who carried them away captive."

(Psalm 106:48) “ 48 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting and let all the people say Amen Praise the Lord."

Pagan temples from the 4 th century B.C. (Num 33:55-56) “ 55 but if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then it shall be that those whom you let remain shall be irritants in your eyes and thorns in your sides, and they shall harass you in the land where you dwell. 56 Moreover it shall be that I would do to you as I thought to do to them.”
