ECO-HOUSE Design Foundation IV- DFN 2004 Spring Semester 2011 – Professor Tango Project 3: Eco-House Duration: 17 classes The Challenge This project allows you to be the designer of a contemporary energy efficient “green” home. The client(s) will be selected by the student. You can act as your own client if you wish, but the project has more value and realism if you get others involved to act as the clients. NAAB Student Performance Criteria Goals for this Project Suggested Program Elements Two types of “living room” areas; one centered on a fireplace and a second centered on a large TV/Media Center. large deck(s) for entertainment and grilling and viewing the site features Large entertaining kitchens are the norm. Kitchen should include a double sink, large refrigerator, two ovens, a cook top with side grill, microwave, dishwasher, an island with a salad sink, adequate storage for the dishes, glasses, silverware, pots and pans, and a pantry. a dining room with seating for a maximum of 12 people and storage closet or furniture piece for linens and serving utensils a laundry room with washer, dryer and utility sink and sorting table a guest half-bath in close proximity to the living/kitchen/entertaining area. a master bed room with closet his and hers closets a master bath with tub, shower stall, two sinks and a toilet. a guest bedroom to accommodate two people with a closet(s) a guest bath with sink, shower and toilet. a small office area or room with desks, files, computer, fax, etc. bedrooms for children covered parking for two cars. guest parking for two cars (can be behind one or both of the owners cars) Procedure All drawings, exercises, research and study models should clearly show continual progression towards a design solution. Maintain a record of your progress. Trim “thinking paper” studies to a uniform size. Keep all study models, no matter how rough, that show the spatial development of your solution. Site Analysis Prepare a site analysis describing the various areas of influence from your text “Site Analysis”. Each factor should have is own graphic with explanatory text. Precedent Analysis Each student to select three contemporary houses by noted architects and compose a minute PowerPoint presentation for the class. Select enough images of each home (plans, elevations, sections, perspectives) to adequately convey the design. Try to select projects similar in scale to this project and do not duplicate homes within our studio team. Use periodicals, journals, books and websites for information gathering. Provide bibliography information.
