CASE #1 Use a comma to separate THREE or more WORDS, PHRASES or CLAUSES. Bruce bought bagels, bananas, bacon, and bread for breakfast. Stacey promised to say the pledge, sharpen her pencil, and sit down before the bell.

CASE #2 Use a comma to separate two INDEPENDENT CLAUSES with a coordinating conjunction. Shakira gyrates in bikinis, and Chris Brown dances in suits. The game was over, but the crowd refused to leave.

CASE #3 Use a comma to separate a dependent clause followed by an independent clause. When Willie went walking, he saw a weasel. Although Alison adores apples, she inhaled a pomegranite.
