Quick Review #1 Dating the birth of Jesus. #2 Zechariah-John. Luke 1:5-23 #3 Genealogy. Mat 1:1-17 Mary. Mae- Luke 1:26-56 (no ppt notes-Dec 3, 2008) #4 Zechariah-Prophecy. Lk 1:67-79 #5 Matthew Birth. Mat 1: 18-25

Matthew 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child of the Holy Spirit;.. Luke 2:5 to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. 6 And while they were there, the time came for her to be delivered. 7 And she gave birth to her first-born son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.

Matthew 1:18.. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child of the Holy Spirit; 19 and her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. Note Joseph’s unwritten: ‘how can this be’ moment.

Matthew 1:19.., resolved to divorce her quietly. 20 But as he considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit; Note: Divorce in the scriptures

RSV Matthew 1:21 she will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.“ Amplified Bible..highly recommended. Matthew 1:21 She will bear a Son, and you shall call his name Jesus [in Hebrew means Savior], for He will save His people from their sins [that is, prevent their failing and missing the true end and scope of life, which is God].

Deuteronomy 30:19 I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse; therefore choose life, that you and your descendants may live, 20 loving the LORD your God, obeying his voice, and cleaving to him; for that means life to you and length of days,..

John 17:3 And this is eternal life, that they know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent.

Matthew 1:22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: 23 "Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and his name shall be called Emmanuel" (which means, God with us).

KJV Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. RSV Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, a young woman shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Virgin or Young Woman? The text of Isaiah as canonized in Hebrew by the rabbis 90AD. [virgin, young woman of marriageable age, maid or newly married]. The 200 BC Septuagint text, including the Apocrypha, as used by the early church, canonized in Greek by the church 360 AD. Clearly translates [‘virgin’]

Most Hebrew words have a much broader range of legitimate translation than the Greek words which are more specific. The tendency in most modern translations is to give greater weight to the Hebrew text of the OT than to the Greek Septuagint.

The rabbis, outgrowth of the Pharisees, canonized out the Apocrypha, and used the Hebrew text of the O.T. The early church used the Greek text of the O.T. Septuagint which included the Apocrypha (translated from Hebrew about 200 BC).

Matthew 1:.. 23 "Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and his name shall be called Emmanuel" (which means, God with us). Matthew 28:20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age."

Exodus 3:11 But Moses said to God, "Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?" 12 He said, "But I will be with you; and this shall be the sign for you, that I have sent you: when you have brought forth the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God upon this mountain."

Judges 6:14 And the LORD turned to him (Gideon) and said, "Go in this might of yours and deliver Israel from the hand of Midian; do not I send you?" 15 And he said to him, "Pray, Lord, how can I deliver Israel? Behold, my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family." 16 And the LORD said to him, "But I will be with you, and you shall smite the Midianites as one man."

Matthew 1:24 When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him; he took his wife, 25 but knew her not until she had borne a son; and he called his name Jesus

Next Wednesday, Dec 31 st we will take a look at the biblical Feast of Dedication. John 10:22 It was the feast of the Dedication at Jerusalem; 23 it was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple, in the portico of Solomon.
