The Death of David’s Child 2 Samuel And the LORD struck the child that Uriah’s wife bore to David, and it became ill. 16 David therefore pleaded with God for the child, and David fasted and went in and lay all night on the ground. 17 So the elders of his house arose and went to him, to raise him up from the ground. But he would not, nor did he eat food with them. 18 Then on the seventh day it came to pass that the child died. And the servants of David were afraid to tell him that the child was dead. For they said, “Indeed, while the child was alive, we spoke to him, and he would not heed our voice. How can we tell him that the child is dead? He may do some harm!” 19 When David saw that his servants were whispering, David perceived that the child was dead. Therefore David said to his servants, “Is the child dead?” And they said, “He is dead.”

The Death of David’s Child 2 Samuel So David arose from the ground, washed and anointed himself, and changed his clothes; and he went into the house of the LORD and worshiped. Then he went to his own house; and when he requested, they set food before him, and he ate. 21 Then his servants said to him, “What is this that you have done? You fasted and wept for the child while he was alive, but when the child died, you arose and ate food.” 22 And he said, “While the child was alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, ‘Who can tell whether the LORD will be gracious to me, that the child may live?’ 23 But now he is dead; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.”

Consequences of Sin So David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the LORD.” And Nathan said to David, “The LORD also has put away your sin; you shall not die. However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also who is born to you shall surely die” (2 Sam. 12:13-14) Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap (Gal. 6:7). But if you do not do so, then take note, you have sinned against the LORD; and be sure your sin will find you out (Num. 32:23).

Consequences of Sin For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Rom. 6:23). Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear (Isa. 59:1-2). Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your loving kindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is always before me (Psa. 51:1-3).

Children Are Safe But now he is dead; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me (2 Sam. 12:23). But Jesus called them to Him and said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God” (Lk. 18:16). …Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven (Matt. 18:3).

Children Are Safe Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness… (1 Jn. 3:4). Yet you say, “Why should the son not bear the guilt of the father?” Because the son has done what is lawful and right, and has kept all My statutes and observed them, he shall surely live. The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself (Ezek. 18:19-20).

There Is Life After Death But now he is dead; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me (2 Sam. 12:23). For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens (2 Cor. 5:1). Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, And the spirit will return to God who gave it (Eccl. 12:7).

No Reincarnation But now he is dead; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me (2 Sam. 12:23). For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Rom. 6:23). And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment (Hebrews 9:27).

God Gives Us Strength So David arose from the ground, washed and anointed himself, and changed his clothes; and he went into the house of the LORD and worshiped. Then he went to his own house; and when he requested, they set food before him, and he ate (2 Sam. 12:20). I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Phil. 4:13).

God Gives Us Strength I will lift up my eyes to the hills-From whence comes my help? My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore (Psa. 121:1-8).

God Gives Us Strength God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea (Psa. 46:1-2). Psalm 23 – “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want…”

We Can Go To Heaven But now he is dead; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me (2 Sam.12:23). In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also (Jn. 14:2-3).

We Can Go To Heaven Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying... (Rev. 21:1-4).

We Can Go To Heaven “…There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.” And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son” (Rev. 21:4-7).
