Major Buildings Architecture:the important key for understanding the evolution of their ancient civilization (the mayans). Mayan architecture is important, because it is one of the few aspects of the Mayan lifestyle. The temples made were important, and (also) pyramids, leading to the top where sacrificial rituals took place. Most, or all the buildings were made of stone, which still stand today. Kings lived in stone palaces, other people live in clustered areas, and when the wood or thatch would rot, they tore it down and started all over. Nick Temple or pyramid >

Population ★ From A.D 250 to 900 A.D the Mayan Population was from 5,000 to 50,000 people ○At the peak of the Mayan population there were about 2,000,000 people there. ○In the city of Tikal there were about 5,000 people. ○In the city of Capan there were about 25,000 people. ○ Although, if the population was about 50,000 there were about 5 times as many sacrifices in the Mayan society over time. ○ Which made the population drop significantly Ethan Play video

Beliefs and Practices The Mayans are native Mesoamerican people who developed one of the most sophisticated cultures in the Western Hemisphere before the arrival of the Spanish. Mayan religion was by the worship of nature gods such as the gods of sun, rain and corn. They studied the importance of astronomy and astrology, rituals of human sacrifice, and the building of temples. The maya believed that when the sun and moon set they went to an underworld. They also believed that mountains and hills were the homes of ancient gods. Mayan priests were in control of education and rituals too! Zoe

Schools The Mayans received a different kind of education than the one we have today. Only the high authority had a good education Zoe

Interesting Facts -The Mayans thought that the world was created on August 11, 3114 BC and thats the date their calendar counts from -Mayan children were named according to the day they were born -One of the practices the Mayans would do was press boards on babies foreheads to create a flattened surface. -Another practice was to cross the baby's eyes. In order to do this, they would dangle an object in front of a newborn baby's eyes until his/her eyes were permanently crossed -The colossal heads that were made still stand, but are a mystery, because no one knows why they were made.
