Motive: Beethoven’s 5 th, video  Through the use of a simple 4 note motive, an entire movement is developed, these developments are visually represented by the graphics of the video.

Guided Notes  The capital of Trinidad is port of spain.  Steel Drum Ranges and types  Many 55 gallon oil drums were left over from colonists exploits on Trinidad.  The various steel drums are made from these drums.  The side of the drum is called the skirt, the lower the drum is, the more skirt is left on the oil drums.

More Guided Notes  When referring to drum size, we think in terms of skirt length  The highest drum is called the ping-pong. It frequently has the melody.  Double-tenor, second pan and double seconds create the harmony, which despite being a musical voice close to the melody, remains a secondary part.  Guitar pans, cello pans, cello-bass pans and bass pans primary job is to provide a steady beat. They provide a rhythmic spine.

CFU: Draw it!

Dent Science  The bigger the drum, the bigger the dents, the fewer the notes.  The smaller the drum, the smaller the dents, the more notes are possible

Compare and contrast 3 steel drum tracks
