What Is Epidemiology? The branch of medicine dealing with the incidence and prevalence of disease in large populations and with detection of the source and cause of epidemics of infectious disease.

AIDS In The United States AIDS was first identified in the USA in The epidemic has now spread to every part of the USA and to all sectors of society. It is thought that more than one million people are living with HIV in the USA and that more than half a million have died after developing AIDS.

Among the 6,662 persons who had HIV diagnosed during 2001, a total of 4,325 (65%) were male, and 2,337 (35%) were female Non-Hispanic blacks accounted for 54%, Hispanics, 29%, non- Hispanic whites, 15% Of the 3,981 (60%) HIV-infected persons for whom transmission risk data were available, 1,534 (39%) were males who reported having sex with other males, 1,337 (34%) had high-risk heterosexual contact*, and 1,033 (26%) reported injection-drug use.
