Stop #1 - God, the Father of Adam Creation Luke 3:38 38 the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.

Genesis 2:7-9 7 Then the L ORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. 8 Now the L ORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. 9 The L ORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil…

Stop #2 - Seth, the Son of Adam Fall Luke 3:38 38 the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.

Genesis 3:15 “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”

Stop #3 - Noah, the son of Lamech Flood Luke 3:36 35 the son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Eber, the son of Shelah, 36 the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech,

Genesis 6:5, 8ff 5 The L ORD saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time… 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the L ORD.

Stop #4 - Shem, the son of Noah… Peleg, the son of Eber The Judgment of Nations Luke 3:35 35 the son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Eber, the son of Shelah, 36 the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech,

Genesis 10:21, Sons were also born to Shem, whose older brother was Japheth; Shem was the ancestor of all the sons of Eber… 25 Two sons were born to Eber: One was named Peleg, because in his time the earth was divided; his brother was named Joktan.

Genesis 11:1-8 1 Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. 2 As people moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar l and settled there. 3 They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. 4 Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”

Genesis 11:1-8 5 But the L ORD came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. 6 The L ORD said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.”

Genesis 11:1-8 8 So the L ORD scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. 9 That is why it was called Babel—because there the L ORD confused the language of the whole world. From there the L ORD scattered them over the face of the whole earth.

1 Samuel 16: When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and thought, “Surely the L ORD ’s anointed stands here before the L ORD.” 7 But the L ORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The L ORD does not look at the things man looks at. People look at the outward appearance, but the L ORD looks at the heart.”

1 Samuel 16: Then Jesse called Abinadab and had him pass in front of Samuel. But Samuel said, “The L ORD has not chosen this one either.” 9 Jesse then had Shammah pass by, but Samuel said, “Nor has the L ORD chosen this one.” 10 Jesse had seven of his sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel said to him, “The L ORD has not chosen these.” 11 So he asked Jesse, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse answered, “but he is tending the sheep.”

1 Samuel 16:6-13 Samuel said, “Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives.” 12 So he sent and had him brought in. He was ruddy, with a fine appearance and handsome features. Then the L ORD said, “Rise and anoint him; he is the one.” 13 So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the L ORD came upon David in power. Samuel then went to Ramah.

2 Samuel 7:11b, 16 11b “‘The L ORD declares to you that the L ORD himself will establish a house for you… 16 Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.’ ” Isaiah 9:7 7 Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever…

1 Samuel 17:4-7 4 A champion named Goliath, who was from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp. He was over nine feet tall. 5 He had a bronze helmet on his head and wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing five thousand shekels; 6 on his legs he wore bronze greaves, and a bronze javelin was slung on his back. 7 His spear shaft was like a weaver’s rod, and its iron point weighed six hundred shekels. His shield bearer went ahead of him…

Stop #8 - Joseph, the son of Heli Four Differences between Matthew and Luke 1.Matthew’s is opposite direction from Luke’s 2.Different ending points 3.Solomon is in the line 4.Joseph’s line?

we will find some discrepancies, as critical scholars have been quick to point out. Why does Matthew give one list and Luke another? Well, without getting too technical, there are different possible solutions to this. One of the most common is the idea that Matthew gives us the genealogy of Joseph, and Luke simply gives us the genealogy of Mary. Luke then concludes this third chapter of his gospel with Jesus’ genealogy, his family tree: ‘Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry. He was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph, the son of Heli, the son of Matthat …’ If we take the time to examine the genealogy given by Luke and compare it closely with the genealogy that Matthew gives us,

from whom he obviously got his early data and information. It is very possible that what Luke gives us is the family history of Mary, who also by virtue of her father, is a descendant of David, and that would solve the difficulties. ~ R. C. Sproul, A Walk with God: An Exposition of Luke, 59–60. Remember, Matthew was writing his gospel to Jews, and to them the most important issue is not the virgin birth, but whether Jesus is the legal descendant of David, for the Messiah must be of the lineage of David, and that lineage legally comes through Joseph. When we read Luke’s gospel, however, we find that Luke’s preoccupation is not so much with Joseph, but with Mary

Matthew 3: Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” 15 Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented. The Coronation of the King What was special about Jesus’ baptism?

(Luke 2:49). Most interpreters find in these words an echo of the first introduction of God’s servant in Isaiah 42:1, upon whom God puts his Spirit, and possibly also of Psalm 2:7, which was understood as looking forward to a messianic king of the line of David. Such echoes would indicate Jesus’s messianic role as well as his special relationship with God.” ~ R. T. France, Luke, ed. Mark L. Strauss and John H. Walton, 58 “Commentators sometimes devote so much attention to the possible Old Testament background to the words from heaven that they fail to focus on what the voice actually says. Jesus, the hitherto unknown man from Nazareth, is the Son of God. The reader should not be surprised, in the light of Luke 1:32, 35, but this is a declaration addressed to Jesus himself, confirmingwhat he has no doubt already been told by his parents, and what he was already aware of at the age of twelve

Psalm 2 1 Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? 2 The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the L ORD and against his Anointed One. 3 “Let us break their chains,” they say, “and throw off their fetters.”

Psalm 2 4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. 5 He rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, 6 “I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.” 7 I will proclaim the L ORD ’s decree: He said to me, “You are my son; today I have become your father. 8 Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. 9 You will break them with a rod of iron; you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”

Psalm 2 10 Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth. 11 Serve the L ORD with fear and celebrate his rule with trembling. 12 Kiss his son, or he will be angry and your way will lead to your destruction, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

Isaiah 42:1 “Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will bring justice to the nations.”

Isaiah 49:5-6 5 And now the L ORD says—he who formed me in the womb to be his servant to bring Jacob back to him and gather Israel to himself, for I am honored in the eyes of the L ORD and my God has been my strength— 6 he says: “It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.”

Revelation 22:1-2 1 Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.
