Washington State Hospital Association 16 Current Budget Situation The budget deficit was $11.6 billion. State revenues continue to decline; more people need help from the state Future: Drastic cuts to services announced to balance current budget; –$520 million in across-the-board cuts –Additional cuts in the supplemental budget At least a $4 billion deficit is projected for the biennium. Much of the budget is protected and cannot be cut.

Washington State Hospital Association 21 Washington Hospital PAC In 2001, WSHA membership urged PAC expansion PAC donations – plus WHS profits and WSHA investments – make WSHA a major player. Excellent success in 2008 elections (96 percent of supported federal/state candidates were elected)

Washington State Hospital Association 22 Washington Hospital PAC (continued) Very good results in 2009: 475 individuals from 91 hospitals/systems contributed $137,076. Significant PAC donations increased WSHA’s access and influence PAC goal is $145,000 from 500 donors. We have raised more than $105,000.
