What is the Problem?

HIV/AIDS in the Caribbean Caribbean has an estimated 2% HIV rate among adults. Second highest infection rate in the world.

Project Concept Based on Grassroot Soccer curriculum Grassroot Soccer is an international non-profit organization whose mission is to mobilize the global community in the fight against HIV/AIDS Using soccer, Football for Lives/Grassroot Soccer provides youth with knowledge, skills and support to live HIV free

Goals of Football for Lives Further develop our innovative and fun HIV/AIDS education curriculum. Engage local community members in the program. Empower local community role models, youth sport coaches, teachers, and peer educators with the tools to educate the youth in their communities. Promote the adoption of the concepts into local school curriculum.

Football For Lives In St. Lucia Curriculum has been implemented in summer 2008, winter 2008, 2009 and now 2010.

Football for Lives and the U.N. Millennium Development Goals Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases. Our program is a HIV/AIDS education program that has been modeled after a very successful and world renowned HIV/AIDS education program. Develop a global partnership for development Develop a global partnership for development. Our program has been developed from Grassroot Soccer, which has been implemented in many countries around the world, therefore creating a global partnership for development.

Project Results Students were most receptive to program in early mornings Group discussions generated an effective learning experience District 7 proved to be another promising community partner for future projects Survey results showed significant improvement in students’ understanding of HIV/AIDS

Future Project Goals Continue to find new school officials to implement Football for Lives To continue to monitor and evaluate project over time using the GRS/FfL surveys Maintain contact with ministry officials to continue developing FfL Have FfL program adopted into the communities
