Innovation or Excellence in Sustainability in Pavement Stabilisation LEIGHTON CONTRACTORS AustStab Excellence Awards 2012

Macarthur Wind Farm - Tarrone North Rd Key Players  Leighton Contractors Pty Ltd: Steve Grabar Objective  Upgrade the existing Tarrone Nth Rd Overview Tarrone North Rd was a rural road giving access into the Macarthur Wind farm. It was in great need of repair. These repairs had to be carried out with minimal disruption to the surrounding road network within a very tight schedule as not to impact on the greater project at the Wind Farm

Key points of interest about the initiative The proposed build was to box out 500mm put down Geo fabric and back fill with rock. Stabilime proposed an alternative using Stabilisation of the insitu material and just a small top up with rock. Followed by a FCR resheet.  Quarries supply the material required  Reduced damage to the local road network  Project finished on time  Reduced Costs Contractors - The Stabilime Group

Evidence of success Reduced Social Impact  Reduced damage to the local roads.  Quick build reduced impact on local road network Reduced Environmental Impact  Earth materials reused from local Quarries  Quick build reduced pollution and fuel costs  Reduced removal of waste from the site and use of all the original pavement material.  Reduced Co2 produced as a result of the Stabilisation method.  Increased sustainability – Ability to carry a large volumes of truck traffic Reduced Economical Impact  Cost savings

Supporting data for the application  By using quick lime and cement it was possible to dry out the wet subgrade and keep working in the winter months  This provided a good platform for a FCR resheet and allowed 7.5km of road to be rebuilt in six weeks.  Cost savings achieved  Time line reduced  Reduced disruption achieved
