Young Women Personal Progress Standing as a Witness of God

Young Women Motto and Logo *The Young Women motto is “stand for truth and righteous.” *The logo is a torch surrounded by the Young Woman motto. *The torch represents the light of Christ, inviting all to “come unto Christ.” Moroni 10:32

YW Classes and Symbols BEEHIVE, ages 12 and 13 The beehive is a symbol of harmony, cooperation, and work. MIA MAID, ages 14 and 15 The rose is a symbol of love, faith, and purity. LAUREL, ages 16 and 17 The laurel wreath is a symbol of honor and accomplishment.

What is the purpose of the Personal Progress Program? *Helps you Strengthen your faith in and testimony of Jesus Christ. *Helps you strengthen both your present family and your future family. *Helps you prepare to make & keep sacred covenants & receive the ordinances of the temple. *To prepare you to be a faithful, contributing member of The Church of Jesus of Latter-day Saints.

What are the requirements to complete the Personal Progress Program? *Live the standards in For the Strength of Youth. *Complete the values experiences and value project for each of the eight values. *Keep a personal journal. *Attend sacrament meeting regularly. *Attend seminary. *Read the Book of Mormon regularly. *Record your testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ.

Getting Started As you begin, you will receive a torch necklace with the Young Women torch logo on it. Wearing this necklace signifies your commitment to hold up your light and stand for truth and righteous.

Guidelines *You will complete six experiences (three required & three elective) and one ten-hour project in each of the first seven Young Women values. *For the value of virtue, you will complete four required experiences and the required project of reading The Book of Mormon. Value Experiences Required Value Experiences Complete the following three required value experiences. Have your parent or leader sign and date each experience after you finish. __1 You are a daughter of Heavenly Father, who knows you and loves you. Read Psalm 8:4–6; Jeremiah 1:5; John 13:34; Doctrine and Covenants 18:10; Abraham 3:22–23; and Joseph Smith—History 1:1–20. Write in your journal how these scriptures teach you that Heavenly Father knows you, loves you, and is mindful of you.Psalm 8:4–6Jeremiah 1:5John 13:34Doctrine and Covenants 18:10Abraham 3:22–23Joseph Smith—History 1:1–20 ___2 Learn about the importance of patriarchal blessings by studying about them in True to the Faith and recent conference talks. Find out why they are given and who can give them. Every day for two weeks notice the worthwhile qualities and attributes of others. Acknowledge them verbally or in writing. You may select from the following options or write up to two of your own. Your parent or leader must approve those you write yourself before you begin. Have your parent or leader sign and date each experience after you finish. ___4 4You are preparing now to fulfill a unique mission on the earth. Read Doctrine and Covenants 88:119. In your journal make a list of your hopes and dreams for your future home, family, and education and some important things you would like to accomplish in your life, including becoming a wife and mother. Then write a plan that will help you achieve your goals. Share this plan with a family member, leader, or friend.Doctrine and Covenants 88:119 ___5 Participate in a dance, speech, music, or drama performance at school, in your community, or at church. How did your participation in this activity strengthen your feelings of individual worth and self-confidence? Record your thoughts in your journal. ___6 When you participate in family history, you come to understand your identity and individual worth. Visit with your living relatives to learn as much information about your family history as possible. Then complete a pedigree chart of your family and list the temple ordinances that have been completed for each person. ___7 Heavenly Father has given you special gifts. Read 1 Corinthians 12:4–12; 13; Moroni 7:12–13; 10:8–18; and Doctrine and Covenants 46:11–26. Ask a family member, a Young Women leader, and a friend to write down positive qualities the Lord has given you. List your gifts in your journal, and write how you can continue to develop these gifts and use them to serve your family and others.1 Corinthians 12:4–1213Moroni 7:12–1310:8–18 Doctrine and Covenants 46:11–26 Personalized Value Experiences Individual Worth *Recommended that you complete the required experiences in a value before moving on to the elective experiences in that value. *Elective value experiences – may write or modify 1 or 2 with approval of a parent or leader.

Value Projects *Complete the 6 experiences for the value before starting your Value Project, and have your parents or YW leaders approve the project before you begin. *Personal Progress can be a part of the good things you are already doing at home, church, school, seminary and in the community. *You may include others in your YW project, but each project must take a minimum of 10 hours of your own time.

Pacing *Adapt goals to individual needs. *You may work at your own pace. *You should ALWAYS be working on at least one experience or project. *Keep your Personal Progress Record Sheet up to date.

Personal Progress is the Young Woman’s Responsibility *Each Young Women has responsibility to prepare herself both temporally and spiritually.

Young Womanhood Recognition *Complete the Personal Progress program. *Interviewed by the bishop.

What do I do when I complete Personal Progress? Earn an Honor Bee Charm *Read the Book of Mormon again. *Serve others for a total of 40 hours.
