HOSPITAL STRENGTH INDEX Ivantage: New England aggregator that focuses on rural hospital performance 2011 data compilation: all from publicly available sources (cost report, MEDPAR, HCRIS, core measures, HCAHPS, HHI, etc…) 8 indicators that are percentile ranked: Competitive strength: facility HHI (herfindahl, hirschman index) Competitive intensity: market competitor’s HHI Market size/growth: 5 year demand projection Quality: process of care measures (AMI, HF, PN, SCIP, outpatient) Outcomes: mortality, readmission, safety Patient perspective: HCAHPS definitely recommend and overall quality Cost and charges: case weighted i/p and o/p charges and cost Financial stability: debt ratio, liquidity, capital efficiency, resource availabilty
