Causes of WWII The 2 main reasons I think that WWII started are the Treaty of Versailles and Adolf Hitler leading Germany. The Treaty of Versailles started WWII because of the terms written in it. The Germans thought the terms meant treason and that was unfair. Then with Hitler leading the Germans it did not help at all. The German government got mad and Hitler convinced the Germans to build an Army. Hitler used that army to take over many places. Places such as Denmark, Poland, Norway, France and many others.

Facts about Dwight Eisenhower ● Dwight was born on October 14, 1890 in Denison,TX. ● Dwight’s parents were David Jacob Eisenhower and Ida Elizabeth Stover Eisenhower. ● Dwight had 7 brothers. ● When Dwight was 4, he and his family moved to Abilene, TX where Dwight’s younger brother, Paul died of a disease called diphtheria. Sadly, Paul was only 10 months old. ● Dwight graduated from the US Military Academy. ● Dwight got married on July 16, 1916 to Mamie Doud who was from Denver, CO. That same day Dwight became 1st Lieutenant. ● Dwight was also the US’ 34th president.

Some events Dwight was connected to during WWII were: Dwight Eisenhower was 1st lieutenant during these events: ●Operation Torch, ●Invasion of Sicily, ●Operation Avalanche, ●D-Day of Normandy, ●Invasion of South France, and ●when Germany surrendered.

Describing the Events Operation Torch This operation cleared the Axis powers from improving marine control of the Mediterranean Sea. It also helped make an invasion on Southern Europe. Invasion of Sicily This invasion started on July 9, 1943 and ended on August 17, The Allied powers had planned to make the Axis land, air, and naval forces leave. Then Sicily would be open to receive warfare. They did it all exactly as planned. Operation Avalanche This operation started when Winston Churchill wanted to invade Italy. So the Allied powers made a plan. They would take over the Naples port, cut across to the East Coast stopping the Axis powers further North.

Describing the Events Part 2 D-Day of Normandy- This event was the largest invasion by sea in all of history. 175,000 of Allied soldiers invaded the beaches of Normandy and then captured it. That allowed us (Allies) to be able to go into Germany. Invasion of South France (a.k.a. Operation Dragoon) The invasion of South France was where the 1st Airborne Task Force dropped a parachute. Then the US 7th Army attacked causing Germans to flee from the Allies. When Germany surrenders Finally Germany surrenders in Europe on May 7, 1945.

Conclusion of WWII WWII ended when Japan surrendered to the Allied forces. Germany had already surrendered to the Allies on May 7. We tried to get Japan to do that also but they didn’t answer. But after a while, Japan surrendered on August 15,1945. And on September 2,1945 Japan signed the surrender papers ending the war. The Formation of the United Nations The United Nations started on October 24, The United Nations was created to stop another war. This actually replaced Franklin D. Roosevelt’s League of Nations. The United Nations’ mission is to preserve world peace. And I believe they are doing an awesome job.

Conclusion Now we are finally at the end. This was a great journey through history, don’t ya think? Well I hope you enjoyed this powerpoint presentation on Dwight D. Eisenhower.
