Romeo Character Study Dylan Meredith - 4A

What sort of person is the character at the beginning of the play? What are they like at the end? What caused the changes? Can you point to a key turning point? In the beginning of the play, Romeo was an innocent teenager who fell in love, even though he was sad after the rejection of Rosaline, his general character was However at the end, he became sad and depressed and ultimately killed himself. Merucutio's accidental death by the hands of Tybalt was the turning point in the play that caused Romeo to lose his innocence.

What was the moral low point, the moral high point for this character? The moral high point of Romeo in the play is when he does all he can to seek the person he truly loves, Juliet His moral low point is when he participates in the fight with Tybalt which ends with Tybalt getting killed. Romeo has blood on his hands because of this.

To what degree was the character responsible for this tragedy? Romeo is directly responsible for the tragedy of Tybalt's death. Tybalt and Mercutio were having a duel and Tybalt's sword pierces Mercutio, killing him. When the Montagues realize he's dead, Romeo chases after Tybalt in fury and avenges Mercutio's death by killing Tybalt. Because he did this, it makes Romeo directly responsible for the tragedy of Tybalts death.

What should this character have done differently? Romeo should not have perused Tybalt to fight but instead should have found a more political way to get back at Tybalt by getting him in trouble with the law for murdering another person. However because Romeo killed Tybalt all thats achieved is another death while Romeo is the one that gets banished.

How would this character dress? What general style of clothing would suit? What colors would best represent the character and why? Romeo would not be dressing fancy and posh, this is because he is a Montague and would most likely be wearing a tattered tunic with rough pants. In my opinion, the colors that would best represent Romeo would be blue. He is not a red color because he isn't aggressive (until he tried to avenge Mercutio's death, then that would be when his color would be read) and tried breaking up the duel between Mercutio and Tybalt. He was an innocent boy and who has fallen in love.

Select one hand prop (e.g. sword, wine goblet, piece of jewelery) which you would have this character use often, or be associated with, in a production of the play. Explain why this object suits your character. For Romeo, the hand prop that I would associate him with would be a sword. This is because the major turning point of the play is his fight with Tybalt. However, it goes much deeper than that. Lots of people may have associated the ring with Romeo because of his love for Juliet which makes up the story. But I think deeper down, the sword represents Romeo because Mercutio's death brought up a side of him that was buried deep down, and it may have been more real than the love between two teenagers, Romeo and Juliet
