Bathsheba A Lesson in Integrity Loving Other In their Otherness

2 Samuel 11:1 (NIV) In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king's men and the whole Israelite army…But David remained in Jerusalem.

2 Samuel 11:2 (NIV) One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful

2 Samuel 11:3-4 (NIV) David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, "Isn't this Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?" Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her. Then she went back home.

2 Samuel 11:5 (NIV) The woman conceived and sent word to David, saying, "I am pregnant."

2 Samuel 11:11 (NIV) Uriah said to David, "The ark and Israel and Judah are staying in tents, and my master Joab and my lord's men are camped in the open fields. How could I go to my house to eat and drink and lie with my wife? As surely as you live, I will not do such a thing!"

2 Samuel 11:15 (NIV) In it he wrote, "Put Uriah in the front line where the fighting is fiercest. Then withdraw from him so he will be struck down and die."

2 Samuel 11:24b-25 (NIV) Moreover, your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead." David told the messenger, "Say this to Joab: 'Don't let this upset you; the sword devours one as well as another. Press the attack against the city and destroy it.' Say this to encourage Joab."

2 Samuel 11:27 (NIV) But the thing David had done displeased the Lord.

Psalm 34:12-14 (NIV) Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking lies. Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.

2 Samuel 12:1 (NIV) The Lord sent Nathan (a prophet) to David.

2 Samuel 12:7-12 (NIV) Then Nathan said to David, "You are the man! This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: 'I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. I gave your master's house to you, and your master's wives into your arms.

2 Samuel 12:7-12 (NIV) I gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if all this had been too little, I would have given you even more. Why did you despise the word of the Lord by doing what is evil in his eyes? You struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and took his wife to be your own.

2 Samuel 12:7-12 (NIV) You killed him with the sword of the Ammonites. Now, therefore, the sword will never depart from your house, because you despised me and took the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your own.'

2 Samuel 12:13a (NIV) Then David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the Lord."

Psalm 51:1-2 (NIV) Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.

1 Samuel 13:11-14 (NIV) "What have you done?" asked Samuel. Saul replied, "When I saw that the men were scattering, and that you did not come at the set time, and that the Philistines were assembling at Micmash, I thought, 'Now the Philistines will come down against me at Gilgal,

1 Samuel 13:11-14 (NIV) and I have not sought the Lord's favor.' So I felt compelled to offer the burnt offering." "You acted foolishly," Samuel said. "You have not kept the command the Lord your God gave you;"

1 Samuel 15:19-21 (NIV) Why did you not obey the Lord?... "But I did obey the Lord," Saul said. "I went on the mission the Lord assigned me…The soldiers took sheep and cattle from the plunder, the best of what was devoted to God, in order to sacrifice them to the Lord your God."

Responses to Disobedience 1.It was your fault you were late 2.I obeyed, it was others who disobeyed 3.I have sinned

Romans 3:23 (NIV) For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

1 John 1:9 (NIV) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

2 Samuel 12:13b (NIV) Nathan replied, "The Lord has taken away your sin. You are not going to die.”
