THE BOOK OF REVELATION Chapter 8-9 ‘Trumpet Judgment’

Trumpet Judgment: Pointers The 7th Seal opens up and includes the 7 Trumpet Judgements (8:1- 2). And the 7th Trumpet opens up the 7 Bowl Judgements and includes 7 Bowl Judgements . The 7 Trumpet Judgements appear to be propelled by the prayers of the saints (8:3-5). The Seal Judgements seem to be that God takes His hands off the earthly realm. The Trumpet Judgments seem that God is taking His hands off the heavenly and spiritual realms. The first 4 Trumpet Judgments are cosmic in nature and the 5th & 6th Judgements are spiritual in nature. The trumpet Judgements are all supernatural phenomena and cannot be reasoned as natural.

“What is the purpose of the Trumpet Judgement?”

Revelation Trumpet in O.t.

Trumpet in the Old Testament Numbers 10:1-3, 9 1 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: 2 "Make two silver trumpets for yourself; you shall make them of hammered work; you shall use them for calling the congregation and for directing the movement of the camps. 3 "When they blow both of them, all the congregation shall gather before you at the door of the tabernacle of meeting. 9 "When you go to war in your land against the enemy who oppresses you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, and you will be remembered before the LORD your God, and you will be saved from your enemies.

Trumpet in the Old Testament Joel 2 1 Blow the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in My holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land [earth] tremble; for the day of the LORD is coming, for it is at hand: 2 A day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, like the morning clouds spread over the mountains. 10 The earth quakes before them, the heavens tremble; the sun and moon grow dark, and the stars diminish their brightness. 11 The LORD gives voice before His army, for His camp is very great; for strong is the One who executes His word. For the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; who can endure it?

Trumpet in the Old Testament Joel 2 12 "Now, therefore," says the LORD, "Turn to Me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning." 13 So rend your heart, and not your garments; return to the LORD your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness; and He relents from doing harm. 14 Who knows if He will turn and relent, and leave a blessing behind Him -- A grain offering and a drink offering for the LORD your God?

Trumpet in the Old Testament Joel 2 15 Blow the trumpet in Zion, consecrate a fast, call a sacred assembly; 16 Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children and nursing babes; let the bridegroom go out from his chamber, and the bride from her dressing room. 17 Let the priests, who minister to the LORD, weep between the porch and the altar; Let them say, "Spare Your people, O LORD, and do not give Your heritage to reproach, that the nations should rule over them. Why should they say among the peoples, 'Where is their God?'"

Trumpet in the Old Testament Joel 2 "And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: Blood and fire and pillars of smoke. 31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the LORD. 32 And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, as the LORD has said, among the remnant whom the LORD calls.

Trumpet in the Old Testament Zephaniah 1:14-18 14 The great day of the LORD is near; It is near and hastens quickly. The noise of the day of the LORD is bitter; There the mighty men shall cry out. 15 That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of devastation and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, 16 a day of trumpet and alarm against the fortified cities and against the high towers. 17 "I will bring distress upon men, and they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the LORD; Their blood shall be poured out like dust, and their flesh like refuse." 18 Neither their silver nor their gold Shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD's wrath; But the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of His jealousy, for He will make speedy riddance of all those who dwell in the land.

Summary (Trumpet in the OT) The trumpet is blown to gather God’s people and to warn them against the enemy and for God to save His people. The trumpet is clearly related to the coming ‘Day of the Lord’ which is to do with the wrath of God that will be poured out upon the earth in the end-time. The trumpet in the E.T. is related to cosmic disturbances. Additionally, the trumpet is to do with the deliverance of the people who call upon the name of the Lord. For the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; who can endure it? The trumpet is also a call for repentance and prayer.

Revelation Trumpet in N.t.

Trumpet in the New Testament Matthew 24:29-31 29 "Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 "Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 "And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Trumpet in the New Testament 1 Corinthians 15:51-52 51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.

Trumpet in the New Testament 2 Thessalonians 1:6-10 6 since it is a righteous thing with God [1] to repay with tribulation those who trouble you, 7 and [2] to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, 8 [3] in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 [1] These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, 10 when He comes, in that Day, [2] to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe, because our testimony among you was believed.

Observation (Trumpet in the NT) Before the trumpet is blown in the E.T., we observe that the great tribulation, the shaking of heavens and the coming of Jesus are observed. At the time of the trumpet sounding, the elect (the saints) are gathered by the angels, similar to the gathering of God’s people in the OT. The gathering of His people (the living and the dead) also accompanies the resurrection of their bodies. At the time Jesus’ return (and the trumpet), there will be both [1] tribulation and punishment of the enemies of God and [2] the rest and glorification of the saints.

Revelation Trumpet in Revelation

Observation (Trumpet in Revelation) There appears to be great tribulation of the saints in the first 5 Seal Judgements (6:1-11). We also observe shakings of heavenly (6:12-17) which are in alignment with the description in Joel 2:30-31, that signals the coming of the wrath of God (6:16). Revelation 7:9-17 indicates that there is a gathering of God’s people before the throne in heaven, who seem to have been resurrected, similar to the gathering of God’s people at the sound of the trumpet in the OT. There is a unique silence in the throne room at the 7th seal (beginning 7 trumpet judgements) which is a transitional time, a sober and serious time that God has set aside.

Observation (Trumpet in Revelation) The 7 Trumpet Judgements seem to be God’s direct judgement because all of them are supernatural and none could be performed by human beings (8:6-9:21). We observe that only 144,000 who are sealed are preserved from the Trumpet Judgements, or at least the 5th Trumpet Judgement (9:4). ‘If the saints are not resurrected by then, are they not protected against the judgements? Why would God allow the demons to torment and kill His people?’ The last 3 Trumpet Judgements are called 3 ‘woes’. Would they not be God’s wrath? We read in 9:20 that ‘the rest of the mankind who were not killed by the plagues (6th Judgement), did not repent of the works of their hand, that they should not worship demons…’

“When are we raptured?”

Trumpet & Rapture & Wrath Luke 17:26-30 26 "And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: 27 They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28 "Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; 29 but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. 30 "Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.

Options (Rapture) If we understand that the Trumpet Judgements are part of the wrath of God and that God’s people are consistently delivered from His wrath in the Bible, then we would think that they will be raptured before or at the beginning of the Trumpet Judgements. The saints will still go through the great tribulation: the persecution of the anti-christ. What about those who believe during the trumpet Judgements? There is another resurrection just before the Millennium Kingdom begins (20:4-6). The Jacob’s trouble (Jeremiah 30:7) is specifically for the Jews and it might this period of time (Trumpet & Bowl) when they will all be saved (Romans 11:25-27).

Options (Rapture) If we understand that the great tribulation includes the Trumpet Judgements, then we will be raptured at the ‘last’ trumpet with Jesus’ coming at that time. Objection 1: The whole of the Trumpet Judgements are supernatural in nature and God appears to be directly involved, which points to them being God’s wrath. Objection 2: The 3 ‘woes’ definitely sounds like the wrath of God and the Bible seems to point to the fact that God’s people are delivered from His wrath.

Options (Rapture) If we understand that there may be a combination of the option of 1 and 2, then there may be two raptures. Or, there may be the coming of Jesus and the rapture in the middle of the Trumpet Judgements.

Revelation sydhop trumpet?

SydHOP’s Trumpet? Ezekiel 33:1-6 1 Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 2 "Son of man, speak to the children of your people, and say to them: 'When I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from their territory and make him their watchman, 3 when he sees the sword coming upon the land, if he blows the trumpet and warns the people, 4 then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet and does not take warning, if the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be on his own head. 5 He heard the sound of the trumpet, but did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But he who takes warning will save his life. 6 'But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand.'
