Networking with dept. chairs Informing faculty Gathering information for search committees Training Partner Opportunity Assistance Increasing visibility of UM to potential job seekers RECRUITMENT Goal: To obtain a diverse applicant pool and eliminate bias evaluation of applicants

Goal: To retain women scientists at UM MENTORING Development of mentoring plan: THE UNIVERSITY of MONTANA MENTORING PROGRAM for WOMEN in SCIENCE Networking with dept. chairs Training Women Faculty Mentoring Women Graduate Student Mentoring

ASSESSMENT Internal assessment and data reporting Collect baseline data Survey and interviews to determine the “climate” at UM External assessment Contracted to: The Evaluation Center Western Michigan State Univ. Goal: To define clearly the status of women on the UM campus and to have an unbiased evaluation of progress toward program goals.

OUTREACH Goal: To develop a state-wide network of women scientists Tribal College Faculty outreach Year 1: Small focus groups where women share their stories. Year 2: Participation in an annual meeting with women scientists from UM and MSU. Tribal College liaison: Dr. Deborah Pace, SikSika Tribal Health Service Montana State University outreach MSU liaison, Dr. Cathy Zabinski, Dept. of Land Resources and Environmental Sciences

POLICY Develop Policy on: Spousal/Partner Accommodation Tenure Clock Adjustment Quality Day Care for Faculty Maternity Leave Other ?? Review Department Diversity Plans Transform the UM into a family friendly workplace CAMPUS WIDE POLICY COMMITTEE Goal: To develop policy at the campus wide and departmental levels

POLICY DEPARTMENT LEVEL EVALUATION COMMITTEES Two departments per year will undergo detailed and careful evaluation of the previous 10 years for all tenure-track faculty to identify the issues specific to their discipline/department. From this evaluation departmentally relevant diversity plans will be developed, reviewed by the Campus Wide Policy Committee and provided to the Provost.

TENURE LINE HIRES PACE will provide 50% of salary support for three new tenure track lines to be used for women. UM will match this amount and continue these lines beyond the period of the award. Our challenge has been to find the intersection between the PACE goals and the university faculty placement goals so that hires can be accomplished that meet them both. Delineating the priorities of the Provost and setting clear PACE criteria has facilitated this process. Goal: To increase the number of women scientists at UM

Project PACE will assist science departments, colleges and UM as a whole to reach gender diversity goals. Project PACE 337 & 340 North Corbin Phone:
