Previous Palm OS  Palm OS 1.0  The first Palm OS  Premiered on the first Palm Pilots (1000 and 5000 edition)  Allowed user to either write or the virtual keyboard  The Graffiti handwriting recognition system interpreted what the user wrote on the screen  Allowed the user to synchronize the pilot to a computer

Previous Palm OS  Palm OS 2.0  Added TCP/IP network, network HotSync, and a backlight  Palm 3.0  Introduced with the Palm III series  Added infrared (IrDA, exchanges information over infrared light.
