The book of Revelation was penned by the disciple/apostle John in AD 95/96 while in exile on the island of Patmos during the reign of Domitian The book is named after it opening word, Ἀ π οκάλυψις (apocalypse), literally the unveiling and Revelation is the only apocalyptic book of the New Testament. John takes the first three chapters to address seven churches of his day and then the remaining 18 chapters are used to unfold events still future. Events such as the Tribulation, Armageddon, Millennial Kingdom, Great White Throne, New Jerusalem, New Heavens/Earth and eternity!

Believers, unbelievers, skeptics and critiques are drawn to this book because of its rich imagery and bold claims pertaining to the future of the world. For the believer, however, this book is more than just “an interesting read” because the book promises a blessing to all those who hear and obey these prophetic words (1:3; 22:12-17). For the believer it is a source of both blessing and hope as we are reminded that our God is moving towards His visible rule and reign over the entire universe!

Revelation 1:3 3 Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.
