Introduction Paulding County is growing very rapidly. Builders want to drain a community pond so they can build a subdivision. The pond has green tree frog eggs in it. The green tree frog is the state symbol for amphibians. Therefore, the state of Georgia will not allow the pond to be drained until the frogs have completed their stages of metamorphosis. Go Back
Task The commissioners of Paulding County have hired you and your partners to compile a report on the stages of metamorphosis of the green tree frog. They need this information so that they can tell the builders when they may start draining the pond. Your group will research the stages of metamorphosis and design a mini-book. When you are an expert on frogs, your task is to make a mini-book to send to the commissioners that explains the stages of metamorphosis. Go Back
Process 1. Each member of your group will need to click on the pad and print out the research sheet to help you with your research. Your teacher will assign each member of the group a stage of metamorphosis to investigate. Working independently you will gather information about your stage of metamorphosis of the green tree frog. Be sure to check each other’s work Review the rubric before turning in your mini-book Go Back
Evaluation Click on to see the rubric which will be used to grade your mini-book, paragraph, and your ability to work with a partner. Go Back This is how your teacher will grade your work. Your group will receive a grade as a team for mini-book, but you will receive individual grades for your paragraph and your ability to work with a partner. Each member of the group should complete a self-reflectionself-reflection sheetsheet. Please be honest as you reflect upon how each member contributed to the group.
Conclusion Go Back Now that you have completed this webquest, you should be able to tell about the metamorphosis of a frog. Here are some things to think about now that you have finished the webquest. Did you wonder what happened to the other animals that live in the pond? Would you have allowed the pond to be drained? Why or why not? Which is more important, that people have houses or the animal’s habitat is preserved?
